00 an hour 1 day ago 1 day ago 1 day ago GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this is a part time 10-15 hour position that is responsible for performing animal shelter functions related to animal care/health, assisting in animal adoptions and animal intake/behavioral assessments, veterinary runs, along with record keeping for the Wyoming County SPCA.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Duties include the following functional areas:
animal care, animal health, animal adoptions, animal intake, animal behavioral assessments, and record keeping/data entry.
Shelter Animal Care Assistant will assist the Shelter Manager with general public inquiries regarding shelter services, events, and activities.
Ascertains nature of the inquiries and refers when appropriate to the Shelter Manager and/or Executive Director.
Provides animal care with the assistance from volunteers - performs cleaning duties alongside volunteers, administers medications to animals, transport of animals to and from veterinary appointments, daily monitoring the health and well being of shelter animals, and nurturing positive volunteer and general public experiences.
Follows appropriate procedures and protocols for animal intakes and adoptions in accordance with Wyoming County SPCA Shelter policies; assists in animal intakes and adoption efforts with citizens; responsible for collecting intake/adoption fees.
Performs health and behavioral assessments on new animals with guidance from the Shelter Manager; assists with intake, health, adoption records/data entry, and assists with meet and greets with potential adopters.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD The employee is expected to effectively work together with other staff, Shelter Manager, Executive Director, and volunteers to meet the needs of the shelter animals and organization through work behaviors demonstrating the Wyoming County SPCA values.
Employees are also expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of ethics.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE Animal Shelters - Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to animal shelters to include custodial and remedial care, adoptions, animal behavior and basic care.
Volunteerism - Knowledge of engagement techniques, principles, and procedures to work well with diverse volunteers.
Customer Service - Knowledge of principles to provide excellent customer service.
REQUIRED SKILLS Judgment/Decision Making -Uses logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
Interpersonal Relationships - Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with other employees, Executive Director, volunteers, donors, Board members, and community.
Computer Skills - Ability to utilize a personal computer, including word processing and database management programs.
REQUIRED ABILITIES Self Direction - Ability to establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time management methodology.
Perform a broad range of coordination and engagement skills to complete daily tasks with volunteers.
Communication - Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to handle a variety of issues with tact and diplomacy.
Basic Math - Ability to perform basic arithmetic and simple calculations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education and experience in animal care for 1-2 years preferred.
Some experience with being or working with volunteers is also preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work.
Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20 - 50 pounds).
REVIEWS Opportunity for advancement upon review.
The position will be subject to 90 days probation with a review as follows:
